Winter 2020 season will run from November 23 until December 18 and will be composed of SAQ (Speed, Agility and Quickness) and Shooting/Finishing. Sessions will take place at Magnuson #5 Turf unless otherwise stated. Schedule will be posted in September 2020.
Sessions for the 2011 - 2014 age groups will last 75 minutes with 45 mins of SAQ and 30 mins SSGs (small-sided games - 4v4, 5v5), while sessions for older players will last 90 mins with 60 mins SAQ and 30 mins SSGs.
Players have the option of signing up for a particular day each week (3 sessions in total), both Monday and Wednesday (6 sessions) or for individual sessions.
The benefits of SAQ training are discussed in this blog post by Andrew Raines. We've also included a video below to give you an idea of what SAQ training will entail.
Each age group will have one shooting/finishing session per week over the four week program.
Sessions will focus on some of the following: technique for striking a ball, generating power, striking from distance, volleys, half-volleys, side-volleys, finishing from crosses, shooting on the turn, chipping, lobbing, inside and outside of the foot finishing, toe pokes, 1 v 1s and improving decision making in the box (power versus placement).
For planning purposes, we encourage interested players to sign up for either a block of 3 or 6 sessions for SAQ or 4 sessions for shooting/finishing. However, we do offer the option of signing up for individual sessions, albeit at a higher per session rate.
Registration will open in September 2020.
